Regardless, if you’re looking at equipment, I’d first consider used. Add to that a crop sensor body and you get sone serious reach. Add a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter and you have everything you need-coupled with skill-to take phenomenal “pro-level” shots. You can get 1-2 generation old 300 f2.8 or 400 f2.8 for 1/3 the price of new. Idk know what Canon costs, but imagine it’s the same as Nikon. But a newer body can help with that noise perf.Īnother thing to consider for reach, and it all depends on your budget, is to look at used super-telephoto primes or a used crop-sensor body (like a Canon7D). Unfortunately it’s not gonna perf well in low light as a f5.6-f6.3 lens, so you’re gonna get really noisy shots at blue hour and post-blue hour (dusk). Again-if you need more reach, the Sigma 150-600 is something to consider. Nikkor AIS Joined Messages 6,091 Location Alberta 7 You need to get closer. Better AF not only means faster focusing, but also better, faster focusing in low light. 1.5x crop factor of the smaller sensor, basically 200mm is 300mm etc. So a newer camera with better AF might be something to look at.
